Home Tour: Captains Cottage

I am so fortunate to be on a little family holiday this week in beautiful Batemans Bay. Its such a picturesque location on the New South Wales coast and I thought whilst I'm here, I would share the love and show you an amazing property located at Long Beach, which is an unspoilt hamlet just north of Batemans Bay's.

Owned by Lynne Kimmings and her family,  the Captain's Cottage was purchased in 2002 and has been lovingly transformed into an amazing five bedroom property, complete with authentic lighthouse.

Originally built in the early 1950s as a fisherman's cottage by two Sydney brothers, Lynne found the property in a rough state. It did, however,  have an amazing feel and the family decided they couldn't bear the thought of pulling it down, so decided to start planning their extension instead.

In 2004 the two storey section of the house was completed and the lighthouse was added in 2009. Lynne had a 10 week block in between accommodation bookings, and with the hard work of her husband, son and a young builder, they managed to complete the works in the nick of time.

Lynne's husband has always had an interest in maritime history, and building the Cottage and lighthouse gave them a chance to incorporate all of the little “treasures” collected over the years, including the five foot wide steering wheel that is now on the 1930s replica ships ‘Bridge' on the top floor of the Cottage. Lynne's husband was also responsible for drawing up the plans for both the extension and the lighthouse.

Situated right on the water's edge, Lynne tells us the property lends itself beautifully to dolphin, whale and even seal watching, all of which frequent the bay at different times throughout the year. With a nautical theme flowing throughout the house, the Captains Cottage exudes charm and the tasteful styling is certainly not lost on me!

But enough rambling on, I know you really just want to see the pictures, so here they are, enjoy the tour.

Gorgeous bunk beds complete with their own porthole.

Relaxed living space featuring the blue and white theme prevalent throughout the house.

It's the little details that make this property really special

The Master bedroom. You'll never guess what's inside those bathing huts... an en suite - genius!

The kitchen has a rustic country feel with plenty of space for cooking up some family meals.

And the amazing view from the lighthouse balcony.

The Captains Cottage is available for hire and accommodates up to 10 guests with a long list of property features. Check out the Captains Cottage website for further information or to contact Lynne for bookings.

I hope you've enjoyed the tour. The Captains Cottage is such a lovely example of nautical styling done tastefully. Now I'm off to enjoy the sun, sand and a glass of wine - back to the holiday!
