Babushka Dolls Paper Art - In 5 Simple Steps

If you don't have much of an artistic streak, but desperately need some budget friendly artwork for a little girl's room or nursery, I think I can help. If you follow the free template I've provided the only crafty expertise you will need is the ability to cut and paste!

I can't claim the design of this artwork as my own, I saw this print on the Wallfry website when I was researching Miss M's nursery design and thought that, using it as inspiration, I could create my own arwork using scrapbooking paper. Wallfry have a fantastic selection of nursery prints that can be personalised too!

Materials

Babushka Doll Template
Scrapbooking paper and coloured card
Scissors
Glue
Frame (the template fits a frame with a matted area of 11.5cm x 16.5cm)

Method

Step 1 - Cut a piece of coloured card to the size of your frame as your artwork backing.
Step 2 - Print out the Babushka Doll template and cut around each piece.
Step 3 - Trace each piece onto the back of the scrapbooking paper you have selected and cut out.
Step 4 - Glue the face and hair to the back of the headpiece.
Step 5 - Then glue the body and headpiece onto your coloured card backing.

Now you can go crazy with embelishments on your doll's bodies using buttons, sequins or even paper decorations like I have.

I had to add a couple of extra steps to my project because the frame I had lying around the house was looking a little shabby. You can't really tell from the picture, but the finish isn't great and the black inner frame colour is seeping into the white outer frame.

I hit the frame up with a couple of coats of white spray paint and then followed up by carefully handpainting the inner frame in a teal blue colour.

I also had to attach a hanging triangle to the back of the frame, which I simply did by hot gluing it in place.

So there you go, a simple artwork that is inexpensive to make and looks very sweet in a little girl's room. I think it's finished off Miss M's mini gallery wall nicely! Another item ticked off my 2014 To Do List.
